  1. Well, sounds like you've never played basketball before. You should not tryout yet.

You should first practice shooting and dribbling until you can do them well. Then you can tryout.

    Good Luck!

  2. ITS KIND OF LATE IF ITS HIGHSCHOOL

GIRLS THAT PLAY IN HIGHSCHOOL BASKETBALL KNOW MORE THAT THE BASICS

  3. you don't really need to know much more...all you really know is how to get the ball in the hoop!! lol! and over time you will learn how to do tricks and all that stuff but for now just stick with the ball in the hoop and then eventually start doing tricks, take it in small steps don't rush!!!

  4. I found this site to be very helpful for people who are starting off and wanting to play basketball. Remember, reading about it does not make you a pro...it requires a lot of practice.

    This is the web site:

    Good Luck

  5. Give up; if you don't anything about basketball and are wanting to play, practice instead of wasting time of YA.

  6. Basketball isn't a hard game to play, but for me unlike you, ive been playing since i was 5.

I do need to let you know though, if you have never played, and don't know really anything about it, you probably won't make the team. Unless you have natuarl ability, and are really athletic, or you live in a very small town. Cause people who try out for high school teams have played for a while. Its not something they do on a wim.

Some things you need to know is how th pass. Bounce pass, it hits the ground once before reaching the other player. And Chest pass, it goes straight to the player without hitting the ground.

another thing you need to know is how to dribble(bounce the ball up and down) others are lay ups, free throws, jump shots, 3 pointers, defense, offense.

Layups-putting the ball in the hoop from one side, using the backboard.

you need to be able to do this for both sides.

Free throw- a shot given to a player for being fouled. get 2 shots, from the line at the top of the key

Foul- this is cause by hitting someone, or blocking them wrong, or being too aggressive.

Key- a box like shape in front of the hoops

Jump shots- taken usuall outside the key

3's- put up behind the black 3 point arc

    DEFENSE:

Man- this is where you match up with another player from the other team, and guard them, so they can't get the ball, or sore if they have it

Zone- players have a specific area to guard anything in that area, the areas may change as the ball moves.

Offense- coaches teach playswhen season starts

    other rules:

Three second rule, you can't stand in your own key for more then 3 seconds.

Traveling- you can not walk or run with the ball without dribbling it

Double Dribble- You can't dribble, then fake a pass or something, then dribble again.

Technical foul- this is from a coach getting really argery at a ref, or a player punching, shoving, kicking, bad language, or something like that

The other team gets 2 shots from this

    Your work out:

    run about a 1hr a day

shoot 300 jump shoots a day

    shoot 200 3's a day

Shoot 100 free throws a day

do 50 lay ups each side

dribble 20 min without looking at the ball on both hands

try to play 5on5 once a week.

GOOD LUCK, and let me know how it goes.

    d:^)

  7. dribble, pass, defense, team work, plays, ect! You will need to know a lot! goto youtube and watch basketball games

  8. If you want to play basketball for fun you have the possibility to play on your own.

But you can also play team games with either 1, 2, 3, or 5 players on each teams.

Teams can be mixed with boys and girls or not.

On a competition level, a team is made of 5 players playing on the court and 5 players sitting on the bench that can be used for substitution during the game period.

Each player is assigned a position when playing. This position is usually determined by the height of the player.

The tallest guy usually plays “center” or “position 5”, while the medium size ones play “forwards” or “position 3 and 4”. The shortest players then play “guards” or “position 1 and 2”.

A player scores when he manage to put the ball into the basket from above. Scoring a basket increases the team score by 3, 2 or one point.

If the player successfully shoots from outside of the 3 points line, the basket is worth 3 points, other wise it is worth 2 points.

It is also possible to score one point when shooting from the free throw line, after a foul for instance.

A violation occurs when the player infracts the rules of Basketball. A violation results in the awarding of the ball to the opponents.

It happens when the player takes more than 2 steps without bouncing the ball on the floor. This is called Traveling.

An other violations is when a player stops dribbling and then starts dribbling again or bounces the ball with its two hands at once. We call this a double Dribble.

You can also commit a violation if you twist your hand , when in contact with the ball, pass the vertical. This is called Carry, as the hand must always remain on the top of the ball.

A foul is an illegal action that can commit a player from one team to a player from the adverse team. Basketball is generally said a non-contact game. If, in particular occasion this is not respected, a foul is committed.

There are two types of fouls. The first ones are called defensive fouls. They occur when the offensive player is being fouled by the defender. Defenders should not block, push, trip, strike or hold the player in possession of the ball. The second ones are the offensive fouls. For example a player in offense commits an offensive foul when charging into a stationary defender

  9. I wouldn't be an a*****e and say give it up but it will be hard. especially because you don't know the rules and you're trying out for a high school team.

You have to dribble(bounce) the ball with one hand when you want to move. if you move without dribbling its a traveling violation. a travel.

When you are on offence you can not stand in the paint for more than 3 seconds.

You can not hurt someone(obviously) unless it was their fault.

Do not hug anybody. yes some people do that,

You're going to have work on form so I'd ask somebody to teach you a little.

    Good luck.
