How to play the Guitar?

Question

Does anyone know how I can learn to play the guitar? I have an acoustic one that's tuned, but I can't take lessons. What do I have to learn, like how do I read the notes? (I've been playing the piano for around 8 years, so I know that stuff.) Does anyone know of a good website where I can learn this stuff?

Please don't tell me that the best thing to do would be to take lessons,as I can't. T__T

Just play guitar hero, rock star, practice, or go to guitar lessons.

First learn to read tabs...you could probably wiki that.

Next get a chart that shows which tab is which note.

Extra Credit:  Get a book of scales  that reads in tabs and regular chart music.  Play the scales faster, and eventually your fingers will be stronger and more coordinated.

If you know piano you have a really solid foundation in learning guitar because you have a basic understanding of music. You should maybe begin by picking up Aaron Shearer's book Volume 1 Classic Guitar Technique which will be a good starting point. Once you can do the songs and exercises in that book you will have a solid foundation in understanding the guitar and will be able to move on to more challenging works...

i usually just look on you-tube to learn songs....i sometimes read tabs but they can be confusing...plus i took lessons in school to read notes(i know u cant take lessons)....but i don't read them anymore i just go by memory
