How to play videos on my xbox?

Question

every time i connect a portable device or i connect it to the computer it won't play it says its not supported or something and there's a red icon next to the title how do i fix this.

The videos are not in the right codec, make sure they are in at least WMV codec, if they are avi then go online and try watching the video when it fails it would ask for and update, which would enable it to play avi codecs...
