  1. -0.25 is equal to -1/4 and would be plotted between 0 and -1, 1/4 of the way from 0 to -1.

The problem looks like starting at -0.25 and going left -4 to subtract 4 from -0.25.

You could, from -0.25, go left 1 to -1.25, 1 more to -2.25, 1 more to -3.25, and then 1 more to -4.25, the point you would end at.

  2. just draw a straight line and number them like a ruler

    ____________|____|____|_____|____|_|__...

                        -4                           -.25 0

  3. Here is a number line (ignore the dots "·" ):

    - - - -| - - -| - - - - - - - - | - - - - - - - | - - - - - - - | - - - - - -|- - - | - - -

    · ·-4.25· ·-4· · · · · · ·  -3· · · · · · ·-2· · · · · · ·-1 · · · ·-.25 · ·0· · ·

To figure -0.25 - 4 on a number line, start at the -.25 and go to the -4.25, counting the spaces. .25 to 1.25 is one; to 2.25 is two; to 3.25 is three and to 4.25 is four. -0.25-4 = -4.25

Hope this is clear. Good luck!
