  1. plastic tray with warm water

add 3 spoons of baking soda

    1 spoon of salt

    mix

put aluminum foil on bottom of tray

    put silver on foil

    watch the tarnish disappear

  2. oh, please don't do the baking soda thing. it takes the antique patina  off of fine silver. like stripping antique furniture (cries)

go to the store and buy hagerty  silver cream. polish with a soft cloth and rinse with water.

alternately, buy a "sunshine cloth" from ebay.

  3. Step1

Handling helps keep silver free of tarnish, so use it regularly.

    Step2

Avoid exposing silver for long periods of time to foods such as eggs, mustard and mayonnaise, which are high in sulfur and can corrode silver.

    Step3

Avoid leaving silver on rubber mats to dry, as rubber also contains sulfur.

    Step4

Wash and dry silver by hand.

    Step5

Use a soft dish towel when drying silver.

    Step6

Apply silver polish according to label instructions.

    Step7

    Rub the polish in thoroughly.

    Step8

Buff the surface of polished silver with a fresh, dry polishing cloth until the silver has a bright sheen.

    Step9

Thoroughly remove the polish from the silver before use; silver polish tastes terrible.

    Step10

If silver is to be stored for a long time, pretreat it with a tarnish-retardant polish before storing.

Frequent polishing of silver-coated or -plated items may wear down their silver finish, leaving the base metal exposed. Rather than polishing such items, use them as often as possible and wash them by hand to prevent tarnishing.

  4. Alvarz method is traditional and works really well. However you may want to try toothpaste. I was at a yard sale last week and I bout a silver dish and napkin holders. Both of them were black. The lady told me to try toothpaste and it worked great, although it requires some time. It didn't hurt the surface at all.

  5. baking soda and water
