  1. I found the easiest way to potty train my little ones was to take them to the restroom at least every couple hour,

    before and after naps,

how long it takes to potty train all depends on the child's willingness to train,

I sit them on the potty for no longer than a minute if they are going to potty they will in this time frame,

when they had accidents I would say oh,oh what happened ? then we would run to the potty and sit on the potty while I would go get dry clothes then I would wash them and put on the clean clothes,

The only reward should be excitement sayings, Big Boy, look at you your a big boy, yeah ( and clap your hands) have him go tell daddy or mommy how big he is.

  2. I have noticed that around 18 months kids really take an interest in potty training. and you have great questions!

When I start a child on potty training I take them every half hour until they potty and every hour after that. Rewards seem to work well, look for something small, ie a sticker or an m&m, you may have to experiment to find something he really wants to work for. If he's really interested in potty training it could take you only a few days to potty train him, but it could also take several weeks. Let him sit on the potty as long as he likes! You have a better chance of him going if he sits there. Make the biggest deals of his successes, sing, dance around, jump up and down, make it fun. When he has a accident and he'll have several just say something like," Uh Oh! You had an accident. It's okay, everyone has accidents. Next time you feel like you need to potty tell mommy/daddy so we can use the potty. Why don't we go sit on the potty now while Mommy/Daddy cleans up the accident." NEVER scold your child for having an  accident it will undo all your work!

  3. being interested in the potty, doesn't necessarily mean that his bladder muscles are developed enough for him to succeed.  however, there's nothing wrong with giving it a try.

you should take him more frequently, say 45-60mins,

a praise and good boy is enough ( so it doesn't become too stressful for him)

if he hasn't succeeded in about 3 weeks time, stop doing it, leave a couple of months and then try again.

let him sit on the potty until he wants to get up. don't force him to sit onit.

just say "oops, now we clean it up..ok, no problem" with a "i'm not happy but i'm not mad either" tone.

    good luck

  4. Congratulations on starting on time!!! Please do not listen to the idiots who will tell you he's not ready, they're just buying into the information put out there by diaper companies who want you to keep buying diapers for as long as possible. As usual, with kids, they will teach you when and how long, just keep observing them and you will figure out when they need to go and not try to tailor your kids needs to someone elses suggestions. good job.

  5. Every child is different mine where out of diapers by 9 months of age they are sort of like puppies No pun intended -after playing napping first thing after they eat getting up in the am before bed  some catch on quicker than others. I have seen some kids at 4 that aren't trained but I think that has alot to do with the parents. Kids are sponges they learn very quickly. And when they do  well you give them -good job your a big boy. If they have an accident you don't make a big deal out of it just say let mommy know when you need to go potty. So many people make such a big production out of some things.Good luck I think you will do just fine seeing as you are on top of this with the age and all. there are books at the library to on going potty that may be helpful.

  6. 18 months is pretty young for real potty training, but if he's interested, by all means give it a try.

    1. You could put him on every two hours, though at this age he's probably wetting much more often than that. You'll probably need to put him on every 45-60 minutes if you hope to 'catch' most of it.

    2.  If he really seems ready, rewards may help.  If he's NOT ready, they will just frustrate him. (He wants the candy/toy/stickers, but no mattter how hard he tries, he can't earn them.  That's not fair.

    3. If he's ready, 1-2 weeks.  If he's not ready, 6-12 months or more.

    4. As long as  he wants to sit there.

    5. Comisserate, clean him up, and move on.
