Question:

How to prepare a new pool cue tip?

I recently bought a pool cue in America and brought it back to UK. The tip seems to be made of wood and does not resemble a normal tip at all! Do I need to buy a new one or is there a way to "prepare" this one for use? I also cannot see a way to get this tip off if I was to but a new one.

  1. Most all cue tips are made of some type of leather. If you bought the cue stick brand new then the tip needs to be shaped and scuffed. go to a Billiards store and buy a shape and scuffer. If you don't know what you are doing take your cue with you, they will do it for you. And some tips s***w off and others are on by an adhesive if your tip does not s***w off then when u need another one take it in and they will remove the old and put a new one on for you.

  2. Cut it off.

Then buy an elkmaster tip which can then be glued on

  3. Is the cue you bought a proper 9 ball cue?

if it is i think they are about a 13/14mm tip diameter which is bigger than a Uk snooker/pool tip of 10mm which are normally glued on then formed with sand paper to a dome shape (my preference anyways)

    hope this helps.

  4. A lot of manufacturers put LePro Tips on.  My advice, is to have it replaced.  The only thing that makes LePro worth mentioning as a pool cue tip, is the fact that it has a name.  Better to get it replaced with a Tiger, Talisman, Moori, or something along those lines.  These tips are made from multiple layers of tanned leather, shape well, and hold chalk very well.  They're available in soft, medium, or hard.  If you don't know how to replace a tip yourself, I'd recommend going to a pro to do it, since these tips come in 14mm and will need to be put on then cut down to fit your stick.

  5. Of course you can cut it off and put on one yourself.

But you can also sand the edge with super fine sand paper. (400 grit is excellent).

Also maybe get some chalk and rub it down after you sand it.

  6. Get a tip that has a grip so u can perform spins.

Wood tips have grip just put alot of chalk so it doesn't turn dry.

Keep the tip i have experience in pool cues and snooker cues. I am also a perfessional pool play no lies

  7. I    agree   with   the   guy    who   said   to    get   an    elk   master.    In   my    opinion   they   are   the   best   tips.
