How to prepare body for pole dancing?

I want to learn how to pole dance but I have heard it is not easy to do. What can I do to prepare my body so I have the most success the first time I try it? Strength training? Targeting certain muscles?

  1. I'm guessing that flexibility and stomach strength  are the most important parts about pole dancing (besides balance and rhythm, naturally.)

    The strength of your stomach muscles is crucial for regular dancing, because you need it to keep you centered while you turn. And flexibility is always impressive (i.e. the splits), and it will help you do more interesting moves while you're dancing. So stretching and doing crunches everyday will definitely help you.

    You should look to see if they have any pole-dancing classes in your area. It's become more popular recently as a regular workout because of its strenuous exercise.
