  1. Eat a gang of donuts.

  2. Ok then you have to pass the physical examination and a mental evaluation followed by academy training and if you pass probationary period, your in.

  3. 1. Know the following:

    The Sheriff's name

    The Undersheriff

County information (population, name of main jail, county seat etc)

If they have C.O.'s or the like.

    How big is the department

What they do (patrol, motors, marine, corrections, courts etc)

They may not ask those questions, but if they do it looks bad not to know anything abot the department you want to work for.

    2. Be ready

    Sleep well

Dont come in hungover (yea one guy did)

Shower, shave, comb and the like, look good

Have a copy of your resume

    3. Walk in like you own that interview

Firm handshake, look them in the eyes, "good morning sir" in a crisp clear voice

When asked things like "are you nervous" tell them the truth, "yes mam, I am. But I will be OK" will sell you a lot better than "nah, I am alright"

    4. At the end be ready for this question, its THE big one

    Why should we hire you?

Dont give them stock answers like I will do a good job, or because I want to work here. Think up a good answer. This is where you sell yourself to the board.
