  1. mostly work on getting your passes because thats what coaches esp. look for also ifyou want to set thn work on the different positions to set and where to place the ball

  2. If you really want to get on the high school volleyball team, you have to speed, skills and teamwork. I know that sounds so easy and simple but there's a lot of work to be done in order to be in high school volleyball. You have to be a good runner. You have to run to get the ball, you can't always count on diving. You should practice bump, set and spike. Overhand serve is the only serve allowed in high school. And you have to work with your team as you know already right. Now you are playing with people that you were opposite playing in middle school if you did play that year in middle school. High school is very rough. For our team, we have to weight room, do lifting weights and everything. It's like going to the gym. And sometimes we go to the beach, because our coach wants us to have muscles in our upper thighs so we can be  able to jump and spike for the ball. Good luck. You just got to step up your game.

  3. If you have a volleyball, start practicing passing so you can get use to it. Put your hands together like a "V" palms up. Then fold your thumbs over. Now get someone to throw the ball to you. It should be a about a foot above your head, nice and soft, and thrown with two hands for more control. While you are waiting for the person to throw the ball, keep your hands apart, your knees bent, leaning forward, in other words, knees in front of toes, shoulders in front of knees and hands in front of shoulders. When you see the ball coming to you, put your hands in the"V" position, watch the ball, step forward and hit the ball on the flat part of your forearms, not your elbow, or your wrist. Your goal is to try to hit up and a little forward, and this is using more leg power than hand power, so don't swing your hands alot. The first couple days you practice passing, your arms will sting, get red, and will most likely get small purple bruises like dots. Ice your forearms for 20 minutes each day until they get better. Soon, your arms will get use to passing and it won't sting anymore. Practice passing until you can control your passes and you're use to the motion. Good luck!

  4. I've found that camps (often run by college varsity teams) are very helpful.  You get to know the volleyball community and kind of culture very well and meet some other players.  Additionally the advice and coaching they give is usually pretty good.  Furthermore, I might do some conditioning and physical training (jumprope, running, stairs, etc...).  If you have a friend you can pepper and practice skills, on the net, you can work on some serving or net plays.

  5. i just went through that. i would...

1.Run or jog at least a mile.

    2. run up and down stairs.

    3. if your school has a weight room. USE IT

    4. pratice the basic

if your do one of these things a day or every other day you will be in great shape for the fall.  Also go to any camps you can find.

  6. im on the volleyball team in highschool. i didnt really think that i would join the team. i mean i didnt even tryout but the coach was my english teacher. so he asked me if i was interested and i said sure y not give it a shot. and in the end i got it, when they were trying out they had to do lines(suicides) and it is tiring after a HARD practice. u probably have to be physically fit, be a good bumper and setter. good luck! oh btw, be in control when ur bumping.

  7. i would jog on the beach

  8. just practice hard and work on your skills and when tryouts come along you'll be prepared. good luck!

  9. make sure to bump against a wall for at least 10 mins straight a few times a day. depending on the position you want:

setter: make sure to practice setting all the time.. straight up or to a target.

front row hitter: work on the spike approach

defensive specialist: make sure you can bump to a target (have exact control for where the ball is going off your arms)

make sure to practice target serving too.

  10. I am in the same position tryouts next summer but i want 2 get ready so here is what i am gonna do

    1. practice outside my house everyday and whenever i have free time

    2. (i do not have a net) so i serve against a wall

    3. camps. camps are very important especially if they are with the school you are gonna try out for because they will teach you exactly what you need to know to make that team

    4. try to find an off season team i am looking (and found a couple) very exsperienced club teams to join in my area with good coaches and it will give you a way to get better off season

    6. go to any open gyms your school or the high school offers and play anytime you get the chance even if it is goofing around with people that arent good u can take it serious (and still have fun) with people that arent taking it serious

    7. if you want to be a libaro or deffence work especially on passing if you want to be a setter work mainly on setting, blocker blocking and hitting and verticle jump, hitter hitting jump

    8. make sure you have a good consistant serve

    9. watch as many pro, college, or high school games you can so you know what is expected of you

    hope that helps!
