  1. In chemistry, there are thousands of standard solutions and very few are made the same way.  They are made according to approved laboratory procedures.  Some are made by simply dissolving a substance in water.  Some require more than one ingredient.  Some require dissolving in strong acid.  So if you have a specific solution in mind, post a new question with more information.  

    Most standard solutions are made at concentrations of

    1.0

    0.1

    0,01

    or similar concentrations.

    HCl for example is usually also made at 3M or 4M, because commercial grade is 12M.

    Nitric acid is 15M, so 3M and 5M are common.

    For wastewater chemicals used in trials, concentrations of 10000 mg/L are common.
