I would like to make homemade baby food, but I was looking for good ways to save it in baby sized portions and since this is my first I was looking for suggestions. I thought of canning, but don't know anything about it really and wondered if I could do it in such small portions (where would I find containers) please help, thanks!

  1. Cut down on your work load...

Give your baby the freshest food (without losing nutrients) and save yourself some trouble, by following these simple steps.

    1. Set aside your baby's portion of any fresh veggies, meat, etc., which you are going to use to make your own meal.

    2. Microwave the item in a small bowl (covered with a paper towel, not plastic wrap).

    3. Let it cool and then mash, shredd, blend, etc. to the consistency for your baby's age.

You can feed you baby from the same bowl and if you have any left-over (simple cover and put in the frig. until the next feeding). Or, if you know you are going someplace and need to take the food with you, make a little extra.

Your baby will get the freshest food and you don't have to bother with preserving.

  2. oh you should freeze it. you could look at target or walmarts for some tiny storage containers.

  3. I made my own too, I'm glad to hear others do. It's so cost effective and if you know where you get your food you have more control over what's going into those little tummies.  I used ice trays and made enough for a week usually, sometimes more if it was a particularly busy time.

  4. You can freeze it in ice cube trays and then thaw what you need.

  5. I'm not sure about canning, but i have heard of freezing that would probably work best. I would save it small plastic containers. I have also found a website that suggested putting it into an ice tray, freezing it, then pouring out the ice cubes into a zipblock bag.
