Question:

How to prevent a sore throat during a run?

I started running last week and on both days (mon+tues) I didnt get very far. I found my throat to be quite sore only after about 5-10 mins. On Weds I had a very dry throat and for the rest of the week I had various mild illnesses from a cold to a tickly cough which eventually cleared on Sunday. During that time I did about 3 hours walking.

Feeling better I decided to go for a run on Mon, and same again I get a sore throat about 5-10 mins into it and then again today (Tues).

Is there anything I can do to prevent this annoying sore throat?

Is there anything I shouldnt or should be eating etc...

Or is it something that will eventually pass as my body gets used to it?

Thanks!

  1. Breathing in through your mouth will cause your mouth to become dry much more quickly and will commonly make people feel as if they have a sore throat. You should be breathing in through your nose and out your mouth and the problem should go away

  2. I get this when I run too and I want to know how to prevent it too

  3. Perhaps you're breathing through your mouth instead of your nose. Try breathing through your nose. Also, make sure you're taking in plenty of fluids.

  4. run at night wen it cools down.. maybe
