Question:

How to prevent moss from developing in rockery or fountain?

We recently got rockery or a fountain set up in our garden. The problem is that when we fill it up with water and leave it or even use it occasionally. Green substance (called moss i think) starts building up at the base. then we have to empty it all and then clean it by hand which is a really unhappy process. Is there any way this moss accumulation can be avoided or delayed?

thanks

  1. The water could be chlorinated just like a swimming pool using similar equipment and testing methods, but this may bleach darker, more porous rocks. There are also commercial products available at Home Depot/Lowes specifically to remove algae and keep it from reoccurring.
