How to prevent my modem from overheating?

I have a Westill Verizon modem that supports wireless. It overheats and shuts down. I tried putting ice packs on it. But...

  1. Westell is famous for overheating.  I have cracked the case of mine open and leave it with the covers together but not fastened tightly.  My old one used to overheat, then I'd put it in the freezer for an hour and it would work fine again for a week.  

    If it causes you a lot of problems ask for a replacement from Verizon.


  2. But... what? What happens? The best thing that I can tell you is to let it sit or lie on top of a vent in you house will the A/C in on so it can stay cool. Or you can freeze water bottles and surround the modem with them. If you really what to go real far, you can add a water cooling system to your modem which might be difficult but it should work if all else fails.

  3. Are there any ventilation holes in it, maybe something was blocking them?

    It has a fan in it? If it does, maybe it broke down or got stuck somehow. Other then that I have no idea what could cause the problem.
