Question:

How to prevent vibration effects on a 25 kva generator set?

We're planning on installing a 25 kva generator set on a concrete slab. I think there are machine foundation requirements needed before installing one, the problem is that the generator was not included on the original plan, so the concrete where the genset will be placed is already constructed. Is there any alternative way to install this to prevent the vibrations of the machine affecting the concrete. Im thinking of rubber matting if theres one thats commercially available. Need help on this... thanks!

  1. You'd be well advised to pour a concrete pad over a

    neoprene vibration isolating mat.

This will not only reduce transmitted vibration but spread the load on the floor slab. (It's a considerable live load if it's a prime power rated machine.)

Then additional isolating mounts between the Genny and the pad.

(If you're concerned about sound transmission,

you'll have to isolate the silencer as well.)

  2. isnt this something that your power company should handle? either way your goign to pay for it. might as well just have them to it right and you dont have to worry about it.

  3. It would be prudent to look into isolation mounts with springs, or even with spring/damper combos, if you're worried about resonance.  Strong vibration will eventually cause failure of the concrete.
