Question:

How to price items for consignment?

I will be participating in three consecutive consignment sales. I will be selling infant/toddler clothes sizes mostly 6-18 months. I have some store brand clothes and some name brand clothes: Gymboree/Old Navy/Gap etc.

How should I price these clothes?

I asked my friend how she prices her items and she said that she has been to enough sales that she knows what things go for. Unfortunately I have only been to one sale so I'm not sure what things sell for.

Since I'll be doing 3 sales, I figure that I'll price high during the first two and mark the clothes down on the third.

Please give me advice if you have ever sold at a consignment sale.

  1. If your friend has done this before, take her advice into consideration.  In our area the consignment shop recommends selling at 1/2 of the original price if the item is brand new.  1/3 if it is very gently used.

But I like your idea of starting higher and then dropping the price if you see it's too high.  You can always drop the price, it's bad form to raise it in the middle of a sale! :))
