How to promote situations for a baby to walk on her own

My daughter constantly wants to walk around the house holding onto my fingers...allllll day. My poor back. I am seeing a physiotherapist from this and carrying her. she is only 8 months old and I am a bit cautious about everything really. She has been walking around like this since 5 months. My doctor said she would probably be walking by 8 months when he seen her walk at 6.

I guess I am just curious how kids start walking on their own. Do they just stand up one day on their own? Use the couch? I am not asking how to push her to do something she is not ready, I just would like to be able to put her in a safe situation that promotes her wanting to walk on her own

  1. My son did this.  He started holding on to our fingers to walk just as he turned 5 months.  I actually had pictures done of the two of us and in one his is holding on to my fingers for one pose.  He started walking right at 8 months.  To help him gain confidence I kind of weaned to only hold on to me with one hand.  I also ordered walking wings from Toys R Us.  It has a velcro belt harness that goes around the babies tummy and them straps for you to hold on to.  It really saved my back and within about two weeks he was running from our TV to the couch and to other things he could reach and make it to.  They have been out for quit a while now so you could probably try ebay too.  Hope this helps.

  2. have you tried putting her in a walker? if not that then have your hudband hold her a few feet away from you and you call her name and get her to walk to you a couple minutes out of each day until she feels comfortable walking longer distances without help

  3. put her toys and snack far from where she can easily reach it. she can either crawl or get herself up to get things she need.

p.s dont stay around while you do that or she wont do it. u can hide in a corner where she wont see you and watch in amusement. i assure you she will. she is only relying on you because you keep offering her help.

  4. first of all the baby should atleast stand with the help of supports.. normally a baby will start walking with his/her own legs at the age of ONE.. if the baby can stand with the help of supports, just make some distance with a baby by moving urself say 2 to 3 feet.. and encourage him/her to come ur way by calling their lovable names.. this makes them happy, and they tend to come ur way....

remember u should b  just a couple of feet away frm baby.. probability is that ,a baby can fall too...

    OR

buy a three wheeled cycle (which is available commonly in india) and make a baby to walk with the support of that wheel for some days... after that let him/her to walk with out support..

  5. You can take help of walkers, easily available in children shops. My son gets a great help from it in similar situation. Moreover you must have to keep a lot of patience in growing children.

  6. usually when u put childer in walker, then learn walking themselves very soon, my son start walking in 8 1/2 month only, we put him in walker in 6 months of age...so try this, max by 12 months all the childer learn how to walk by themselves...

  7. u dont have to do anything..............just chill and leave it to her............she will walk the world.........at the right time...........pls dont hurry

  8. Get her some Walking Wings and this will help you a lot.

    Here's some info on them.

  9. Can she stand and balance in one place on her own?

  10. hellooo just be chilled children are more eager then you to do things so in that they try try try and fall so just take care of her and let her self do ,, just give her time and your support and encoragement by just putting her in  walker....and one fine day she will be not walking she will runnnnn......

  11. You should enjoy this little baby of your. You bad back is your posture or a reason for not exercising.

Get a walker for the baby [it has 2 hole were the feet barely touch the ground and has 4 wheels ] put the baby in it and the baby will be all over the house . Be careful .When you have the baby in the walker keep her in a empty room. Walker cost about 25 $ Cnd.

  12. When you allow kids to crawl and not leave them in baby bouncy chairs or even walkers, they'll naturally try on their own when they're ready. They must build tone and by doing that they need exercise in terms of crawling and pulling themselves up on things. Simply make sure there are no dangerous objects, like coffee tables with pointed corners or rugs that could be a trip risk and simply let your child learn to walk naturally.

By you giving in and holding her hand, she's teaching you. You need to put up with the crying and fussing and let her know she's on her own. She'll get the point and try by herself.
