o - al in chalk [stressed]

shch - similar to the "sh" in sheer (but with a slightly more "y" sound)

then goes a sign which, placed after a consonant, indicates a softened pronunciation

so d should be soft

it is better to hear once, then try to figure out in spelling. If I were to spell it how it is pronounced, I would do it like that: Krasnaya Plosh'ad' (or even better Ploschyad'). I put ' as I want to show that it has special pronounciation here.
