  1. gyan

  2. gyan means knowledge.....

  3. I disagree with previous. It is not pronounced as 'gee-aan'.

    It is pronounced as 'gya-aan'. Think it to rhyme with the english word 'Barn' which is 'baa-arn'.

    In sanskrit, it is obviously spelt as jnana only. In hindi, it is spelt as 'gyan'.

    Jnana = "Knowledge"

    Ok, its a little complex. Its the first of the two that you have mentioned. I cant print the hindi font here, but basically these are two different alphabets in the devnagri script.

    'Ghee' has the alphabet Gha' (pronounced just as in the country name 'Gha-na'). Its diffferent from the other alphabet.

    'Gyan' has the softer alphabet Ga'

    (dont confuse with the Gy part pronounced as in the english word 'gy-ro-scope'; here 'Gya' becomes a single sound)

    Update: I just did a little search and came up with this excellent site mentiioned below.

    Look at the list of Consonants for the 3rd one and the 4th one.
