How to properly ask for monetary donations?

Hi, I will be attending Dartmouth College this fall and will need a laptop. However, I am going to be a film (productions) major and will need an Apple Mac Book Pro. I've tried applying for scholarships however I always am denied them due to my parents supposed "over the top income" (they make about 70,000 a year but are about 25,000 in debt). I am already taking out about 10,000.00 worth of loans and it would be really nice if I could find a way to have either money, discounts or even a mac book pro donated. However I wouldn't know how or who to ask...

any suggestions? both on how to write a letter and possible donors...

thanks

  1. You will have best luck going to people you know.  Church pastor, employer, parents employer, civic groups you belong to like girl scouts, athletic clubs, and other organizations you have a lot of contact with... volunteers of America... etc.

Be completely positive you can fund an expensive college education so you don't get stuck half way through... with parents unwilling (or unable) to afford to pay or take out more loans by the time you are a Jr or senior.  You might want to find out in advance what would cause them to cut you off financially as well... just so you know and can avoid it.

Pregnancy, marriage, "unacceptable" boyfriend, poor grades, questionable occupation or major...

    Good luck.
