Assuming your .avi file contains DV and not something like DivX,  it's an output option in Windows Movie Maker.  You have to have DV-IN enabled though - that's normal for US MiniDV camcorders but unusual for European ones.

convert your .avi file to a valid format (mp3 or whatever),

which can be read by the camcorder --to be played.
