I made a video from a digital camera and I dragged the video on my desktop onto the windows move maker icon on it says The file cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

  1. I had a similar problem.  My camera's recording were quicktime and windows video maker could not read it.  I downloaded off the internet a video converter that converts quicktime movies to windows movies but this was only a trial version.  This is the link to download the program, but if you don't like this one try looking for videos converter online or in a store to convert your movies.
