Okay so I have a cage by all living things, and I hate the fact that its wire! Is there anything I can do to cover the wire, or protect their feet from it? I am getting a new cage though, and will be using this one for free range/fun time and/or travel, or quarantine. :) I dont think I should use carpet because it retains smell, right? Oh, and the cage floors are not detachable..

  1. You could measure the cage and cut out a piece of carpet to go on the bottom, if the animal is potty trained.

  2. I would suggest using coroplast, which is like corogated cardboard but made of plastic. That is what people use to build guinea pig cages. You can get it inexpensively at a sign shop, and it is very easy to cut to size. (The sign shop may cut it for you if you bring the dimensions or use an exacto knife.) It will be easy to clean and will not absorb urine. Definitely use something like that as the wire can injure their feet.

Carpet and cardboard will absorb urine and f***s, and this will allow bacteria to grow. They are not good potions. You need something that will not absorb waste and that can be cleaned and disinfected.

  3. you can use cardboard, but it will need to be changed every week
