My mini bike is really loud and the exhaust tips are not whats causing it, i have a 2003 harley davidson mini bike and i have taken off the exhaust pipes to try and quiet it down and it hasn't worked. It's the engine and i dont know how to make it more quiet. Anything you can mix with the gas mixture?

SPECS-

49cc

50:1 ratio gas/oil

Goes about 30-35 mph

2 stroke motor

  1. Take a look inside it and see if there are any baffles at the end, there should be. Also is this the standard exhaust? ~Please be aware that 2 strokes,  really need their exhausts to run well, infact without it you risk seizing the engine up. When you put the exhaust back on use a new gasket  between it and the barrel to give a good seal. There is nothing you can add to the fuel to make it quieter.

  2. somewhere along the line I lost the point of the question. You took off the pipes to "quieten" the noise? How did you come to the conclusion that the ENGINE was the culprit and not the exhaust? Is it an exhaust noise or a knocking sound? What are you hearing and where abouts on the bike?

  3. if the exhaust silencers were not taken out, it must be not so noisy,

but 2 strokes are noisier than 4 ones.

you may try a better  exhaust pipe.

but there is nothing to do to stop the noise coming from the engine block,

if it vibrates, not mounted well, you may get it fixed but the engine stroke sound will not go off

  4. The exhaust pipe doesn't make any noise at all, it alters the sound coming from the exhaust port. (that opening you mentioned).

If you want to make it quieter, put the muffler back on.  2 strokes really do need some back pressure anyway.

Do a little reading on how small engines work, before you destroy yours.  It's very obvious that you don't have even the basic idea of what is going on.

  5. Its a 2-stroke, so you are ALWAYS going to have some noise issues.  On any engine, there are different exhaust pipes for different purposes (making HP, making torque, reducing emissions, reducing sound, etc).  What you have to realize is that this is a minibike!  Your options are going to be limited, due to a lack of aftermarket parts and accessories.  You could probably take it to someone and have a custom exhaust built (big $$$) to your specific needs, but why.....its a minibike.  Enjoy it for what it is.  If you can't deal with the noise, then look for a new toy to play with. I've seen electric minibikes out there!
