I hate my job. To give you a little background, this is my other question from a few weeks ago

Anyway. I found another job...and now I need more advice on how to tell him I quit. I had every intention on walking out...but like maybe 2 or 3 days after I wrote that...he started to not be so bad. He hasn't said too many mean things to me for like 3 weeks (there's been a couple...but definately not like it was) and now he is even starting to joke with me a little and show me he his human. But I still need to quit because now it has come down to the fact that I do not make enough there to pay the bills. So I don't want to walk out now, because he has been decent, but I don't know how to tell him I quit and I'm nervous because I know he is going to turn back into a horrible man when I tell him. Do I give him a notice and then live in h**l on earth for 2 weeks or do I just walk out? And if I do give him a notice what should I say?? PS I am completely NOT the type to just "walk out"...to much of a chicken...so this is kind of a big deal to me.

  1. give two weeks. period. to be professional. but you can't worry about him, its sucks, but even is out to do what is better for them. you can't stay somewhere where you hate it, because you "feel bad".

  2. Give your 2 weeks notice ... tell the truth ... you need more money .

If he gives you a problem in the last 2 weeks ... just quit

Once you've given notice , you owe him the 2 weeks ... but if he acts rude or out of line , there is no law that says you have to take it .

  3. Be short and to the point with him -  you owe no explanations other than the facts.  "I just wanted to let you know that I have been offered another job, and have decided to accept the position.  I would like to leave by the ____th of the month, and will be happy to help you find a replacement."    He could very well get angry & hand you your last check right then and there (probably the best scenario if he's a jerk) or he may ask you to stay & sweeten the pot.   If you will be happier leaving, dont let him guilt you into staying - and DON'T just walk out unless he makes it unbearable for you to stay.

  4. "Have you hired anyone to replace me yet?"

  5. Be professional and give your two weeks notice.  And if he starts acting like a ***...leave early...

  6. Ask for a meeting with HR and ask for your boss to be included.

At the meeting, tell them you've decided to move on to another job which pays better. Be professional. Thank them for the time you spent working there.

With HR people present your boss won't be able to "go ballistic" on you.

  7. First you should see if there's any way you could get a pay increase.  If not, give him your 2 weeks notice and find another job.  If he starts being a jerk again, just keep reminding yourself that it's only for another 2 weeks and you're out of there.  Make sure you have another job lined up before you give your notice or before you ask for a raise.  That will make it easier to walk away when it time.

Walking out on your employee is never a good idea.  Sure you feel like you're really sticking it to them, but in the long run when it's time to put them down as a reference, they'll be sticking it to you.
