  1. Well, show them this article, it may cheer them up:

  2. In addition to the excellent responses you have already received here, I suggest motivating them to increase sales (such as up sell apps & desserts) with a really nice 'prize' on a weekly basis for the winner...something different & out of the ordinary.

    Best of luck!

  3. Instructions

    Step 1:

Create a team oriented environment. Invite all employees to a gathering. This could be as simple as an ice cream social or a holiday party.

    Step 2:

Take the time to acknowledge individual employee contributions. This can be done on a monthly or quarterly basis. When an employee does something above the usual they should be rewarded.

    Step 3:

Create a "Food Friday." Reward employees for a week of hard work by providing a breakfast of bagels or donuts. Employees really do appreciate a small treat like this.

    Step 4:

Encourage your managers to treat employees in a friendly manner. The manager sets the tone for the employee's attitude.

    Step 5:

Maintain an open door policy. It is better to catch a bad situation early on before it rolls out of control.

  4. there are lots of answers to you questions. you just go through each one because some are perfectly answered.

EVEN YOU CAN ASK YOU EMPLYEES ABT THEIR PROBLEMS WHY THEY ARE DE MOVITVATED? THIS WILL HELP YOU MORE AND ITS THE BEST WAY TO MOTIVATE A STAFF

  5. You've got to do things out of the ordinary. I'll suggest the following:

Have a contest, anyone that doesn't miss a day of work for the month will win an extra day of vacation.

If your staff is required to wear hairnets or other required items then, if someone properly wears all their equipment for a week, give them a dollar scratch off lottery ticket (Assuming your state does the lottery.)

For the kitchen staff, if you have a day where no items are sent back, they each get a lottery ticket or maybe a $5 bill.

Small things that won't cost you a lot of money but will make the employees feel rewarded and appreciated.

    Best of Luck.

  6. The very true and hard fact you also feel demotivated at this time you need to boost up your morale first. ups and downs are everywhere , as in your business too. this time you need to avoid any mistakes made by your team. Make a habit to smile. and confident smile. you will find your employees are having a good morale day by day

  7. Though any kind of business is risky it is the job of the owner to run that business in the right manner.

1.Thinking in a positive manner is one of the factor through which you can motivate them.

2.You can bring some change in the restaurant like change in food, sell something different type of items which others dont sell.

3.You can even refer Feng Shui for some difference.

    Hop it works

  8. There are many things you can do to motivate your employees.  First of all share some of your financial goals with the wait staff.  This will make it clear that they play an active role in the business side of the restaurant.  Set up a communication board with the forecasted sales for the day and set some other goals like, sell 10 desserts or a certain appetizer.  You could also post everyones Guest Check Average if your systems allow this.  That will create a little competition between the servers.  At my restaurant we have prizes for selling promo items.  Gift cards are good prizes or it can be something like a pass to get out of rolling silverware or sidework.  Those are great prizes because they cost nothing and are greatly appreciated on a friday night.

Offer extra hours to people to come in and clean before you open.  Another good contest a manager of mine had was a dirty rag contest.  Everyone got a rag and after 20 minutes or so the person with the dirtiest one got free lunch.

You could also have a "friends and family" week or month where employees friends and family get a discount.  This is good because your employees feel appreciated and you may also gain some new clientel.

Have the manager on duty hold a meeting before each shift to celebrate any positive things going on and to set clear goals for the shift.  This is great for communication.

Always treat your hourly employees with the same consideration as your managers.  They will respect you more if you don't belittle them.
