Question:

How to re-cover my couch... but not reupholster?

Our couch and loveseat are hand-me-downs because we are newly weds and haven't had the money to buy our own furniture. I wanted to know how I could just change the fabric of our couch- I don't want to change everything else like the stuffing and everything, just don't have the time or money. Is there a way to do this?

I had considered just getting a slipcover but they are pretty pricey - also our couch arms are not skinny but they are also not tall or far out- so the slipcovers to not fit properly and it just hangs there looking dumb. Is there a better way to fix that that I might be able to make if that is less money?

Thanks to all honest answers!

  1. Without reupholstering, a slipcover is your closest bet.  I might try a few safety pins, or upholstery pins to neaten up any "bagginess."

There are also companies that offer custom slipcovers, provided the measurements of your furniture.  This might cost a bit more, but is certainly more affordable than entirely reupholstering.

    Good luck!
