About 3 months ago I downloaded a CD from iTunes. I rebooted my hard drive yesterday and I forgot to backup my music =s (silly me). Now, I want to redownload the CD i already payed for on iTunes back onto my computer. Is this possible to do without repaying for the files?

Thanks

  1. Try out Snappy-Music.com.  They offer unlimited music downloads and you don't have to pay for each song you download, just a very low monthly fee. They have fast download speeds and great customer support, check them out at www.snappy-music.com when you get a chance.

  2. No. It is not possible :( Not unless you can cry and beg iTunes and make them feel sorry for you. But the chances of iTunes letting you re-download are less than the chances of winning the lottery. (Which means that there IS a chance!)

    P.S. Don't forget to backup!

  3. If you have the tracks on your iPod do this:

Download SharePod from: http://www.getsharepod.com and Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

Once Microsoft .Net Framework is installed, extract SharePod to your desktop or documents folder.

Next, open both iTunes & SharePod.

If you set your iPod to sync automatically with iTunes IMMEDIATELY hold down the SHIFT+CTRL keys when you connect your iPod to the computer.

Wait a few moments for your iPod to load in iTunes then minimize iTunes.

Now, go to SharePod and click the "Transfer to PC" button.

SharePod automatically creates a folder in your documents folder but you can change that by going to the options/preferences and making the iTunes music folder the default folder.

Voila. You can now back up your files to a CD or whatever. =J

  4. Your CD will have to be purchased again. Here is a page which outlines the fact purchases are only allowed to be downloaded once. You can copy music from authorized system to authorized system, but that is it.

This is only one of the reasons I never purchase music from Online stores. It annoys me no end that I can buy a CD at a store, and rip, copy, sync the content as much as I like, but buy that same CD from stores such as iTunes are you are restricted in so many ways in how you use it. Personally, it doesn't make a l**k of sense to me why there is a difference between a store I walk into and make a purchase and Online stores I make a purchase from.

Sorry about the bad news. But, look at it as a lesson in backing up your media. I am not being sarcastic because my system crashed once and I lost everything because I hadn't backed it up. I knew better too! I now back my system up every Monday afternoon on a predetermined schedule, plus I have an image I can go back to in a few moments.

Well, good luck in getting your CD. I would purchase it at a regular store. Please have a nice day.
