croos the road opp to central railway station through subway and get and auto and tell him gemini flyover and the charge will be nearabout 40 to 50 rs  and get down at the start of the flyover and next to fly over is american consulate general enterence. do not tell american cousulate to auto man he will charge more

it will be better to catch a auto then bus if you are a new comer to chennai

other wise catch the bus 18, 18k, 11, 11a, all series in 18 will go and the stopage name is safire theatre or church park school or gemini flyover.

when you reach central station, there is a bus stop in front. You can board any bus that goes to TVS stop (US embaasy doesnt have a stop - it is just a couple of minutes walk from TVS). it is located exactly on the side of anna flyover. people at central helpdesk will help you to get a bus to TVS, atleast they will tell u the bus number.

else u can hire an auto for around 80-100 to USembassy.

Inside the compound of the railway station you have prepaid Auto/ Taxi facility fixed rates, you can fix it, or cross the road and take 11,11A, 18 number bus get down at Safire / US embassy stop, it just under the fly over by the corner of Anna Salai and Dr.Radha Krisnan Salai.*

If you are a first timer to chennai/cant speak tamil don't get into a bus. got to the prepaid auto-rickshaw counter. Or bargain for Rs.80-100/- with any of the auto walas approaching you.

Or call 044-24732020 (Fast Track Call Taxi) and ask if they can arrange for a pick up at central and drop at american consulate, this would be a safe bet.
