  1. Have you ever wondered how to read football betting lines? At first glance it may seem intimidating, but after reading this article you will have a better understanding of the basic wagers.

          Pointspread.

          Pittsburgh Steelers -7.0 (favorite)
          Arizona Cardinals +7.0 (underdog)

This is the pointspread line and each team gives or receives points.

If you bet on Pittsburgh, (they are giving 7 points) and have to win by more than 7 points for you to win your bet.

If you bet on Arizona, (they are receiving 7 points) they have to either win the game outright OR lose by less than 7 points for you to win your bet.

If you bet on Pitt and they win by exactly 7 points then you usually "push" your bet and you neither win or lose your bet.

          Moneyline.

          Pittsburgh Steelers -255 (favorite)
          Arizona Cardinals +205 (underdog)

In this type of bet you are betting on who will win the game outright, regardless of the spread. The negative sign (-255) means that team is the favorite and the plus sign (+205) represents the underdog.

If you bet on Pitt and they win, you will win $100 for every $255 wagered.
If you bet on Arizona and they win, you will win $305 for every $100 wagered.

          Over/Under.

          Over +46.5
          Under +46.5

For this bet you are betting on the total score of both teams to be either over or under the number stated.

So in our previous example if the final score is: Pittsburgh 24, Arizona 10, then if you bet the under you would win your bet, because 34 is under (or less) than 46.5 points.
