Hi,

Can someone please tell me how to read my gas meter. I've been asked to submit the results but i haven't a clue what to do.

I'm with British Gas if that helps, and the meter i have is about 50 years old :P

Any help?

Thanks

  1. If the dials are anything like the ones used in the US and the readings are done the same way it should be something like this.  You will have four of five dials with numbers on them.  The numbers on one will go in a clockwise direction and the dial next to it will have the numbers going in a counterclockwise direction. This will alternate for the rest of the dials.  To take a reading look at the arrow on the face of the dial.  The reading will be lower of the numbers the arrow is between.  (IE if it is between 1 and 2 the reading will be 1.  If the arrow is almost touching the higher number it is still the lower number till it touches. Almost on 2 but not quite will still be read as 1.)  Do this for each dial (be careful as to which way the number run) and write down the number.  Good Luck!

  2. Sorry -- I don't "have the foggiest" about gas meters in Great Britain.  If they are anything like the meters here in the U.S., the registering dials would have a line of numbers representing the number of (cubic liters?) that have been used.  The difference between the present reading and the previous reading would be the amount of gas YOU are responsible for paying for.
