How to record shows from cable?

I have Verizon FiOs and i just have the standard set top box. how can i record shows using my VCR? please help

Set it up like this:

Coax from wall into STB (set top box)

Coax from STB into VCR

Coax from VCR into TV

Turn on all three units.  Tune the TV to channel 3, tune the stb to any channel, then flip through the channels on the VCR until you see the image on the TV.  Once you see the image you are all set to record.
