Hey there everyone, my time to ask a question! :) Right, i have a new laptop, and i recently bought a plug microphone for it, and its really good because i can use it for my singing practice. But, i need to know, how i can fuse that together with a backing track, so my vocals are on it? I am getting so confused with this, so if anyone can help me out, i will give you full marks! ;) Thanks everyone x*x

  1. I have used a number of different pieces of software - from more specialized programs like Fruity Loops to high-end programs like Samplitude (got a spare 1400$?), but for my personal usage I've used Audacity and Reaper. The idea is that you want a program like will multi-track - ie, let one music track (like a pre-recorded song or backing track) be playing while you record another track (like you singing).

If your laptop is running Windows Vista, then be aware that you may run into some difficulties doing this. It has to do with how screwed up Microsoft did the audio on it. I suggest getting a USB interface if this is the case - I know, it's extra money, but it may be the only way to make it work right. I've used a Lexicon Alpha, that's not too expensive but has great audio quality. You can google "usb audio interface" for other ideas and customer reviews.

I also suggest not being connected to the internet while recording, disabling your antivirus and windows defender (while recording and while disconnected from the internet), and disabling Superfetch. If your laptop has any powersaving features, turn them off... mine has a Power saving mode that only lets the CPU run at half-speed, and this screws up recording. Make sure your laptop is running at peak performance! Defragging the hard drive is a good idea, too.

    There you go... good luck!

  2. I have a great download for you.

Go to download.com and type in MAGIX MUSIC MAKER.

Download that for completely free. After that drag one of your songs and place it in the box - then press record and you can record your voice to the music playing!
