heres the deal, i have an old Hp Pavilion 6470z computer with NO DISKS or anything at all for it, it has windows xp on it but i dont think thats what it came with so i dont want to order a recovery disk(i think it originally came with 98, not sure, i bought if off someone). the computer freezes at the windows loading screen. i can start the computer in safe mode and i tried using system restore with no luck. is there a way i can reinstall windows without any disks from safe mode?

the computer is old(only plan on using it for itunes and microsoft word) so i dont feel like spending any money on it, need to be able to fix for free.

  1. It might be possibel that your PC is infected with spyware.

There are two options that you cn try here.

    1.Boot into Safe Mode

2.Download antispyware from the link and check if its working

       http://www.superantispyware.com

    OR

    1.Boot into safe mode.

2.Click on start->run->msconfig->Services->Put check mark on "hide all microsoft services"->click on disable all->Click on startup tab->Click on disable all ->apply->close and reboot the PC.

    OR

    1.Boot into safe mode.

2.Got to control Panel and create new user account and see if its working fine

  2. On the bottom of the computer there must be a sticker showing what os it came with. Plus there must be a code on the same sticker for the os. To learn win hacks go to my profile.

  3. If there's a folder on C:\  drive called I386, open it click on winnt.exe and Win XP will reinstall, but you must have the Win XP reg. key too. You can find a program that will tell you the reg key stored in your registry at bootdisk.com
