I have a friend who is very smart but he has a hard time with the structure of school. He does very well in some classes, a 98 on a science exam, but others he will just flunk. His GPA is very low, around 2.0, but he wants to have a nice career when he gets out of high school. How can he recover so he has a chance at a career he'll enjoy?

  1. For one, freshman year doesn't really matter at all.  Also, as long as you step it up junior and senior years, mainly by taking AP and honors classes and scoring well, and not slacking off in classes that you don't like, you still have a good chance of going to college.  Culinary colleges may not have as strict grade requirements as other schools, but there are still some.  Just don't slack off from now on and he should be fine.

    hope this helps

  2. Only your last two years really matter in high school. They are the ones people (colleges, universities, scholarships) look at. Being a cook isn't that great of a job. I have known many cooks. It is a demanding stressful job sometimes. Especially during lunch and diner times.

  3. Cooking probably does not require a good high school education provided he can do well at a culinary academy. I did poorly in high school because I really didn’t care. I turned it around by getting into a branch campus of a university, doing extremely well, and then transferring to the main campus. It wouldn’t have taken any longer to graduate, but I switched majors. The entrance exams and SATs are important as well. Scoring high will help him get into a good school.

  4. It's never too late to turn your life around, so he can totally make an effort to do better this year.  My high school had free after school tutoring, so I imagine yours prob does too.  Why don't u suggest he do that?

  5. As long as he graduates and can get into college that is fine.  There are certain colleges that specialize in culinary arts.  To bounce back in the groove of school it is a good idea to just sit down and try to figure out what is really making it hard to be the student he knows he can be.  Is it poor study skills? Bad work area? Lack of motivation? try to figure out what the real problem is.  Also time management is really important in having a great high school career.

  6. Freshman isnt really a demanding grade to be taken serious. Its mostly in 11th and 12th grade. Mostly in 11th grade you step up your game and have to really get your **** together and focus.

Hes gonna have to really step up these last 2 years though.

  7. I messed up extensively my freshman year and it was hard to get a higher G.P.A. after that. I recommend just taking the classes required and not taking anything else unless you know for a fact you will get an A. Don't take any extra classes.
