Question:

How to recycle old textbooks in the Chicago area?

I've got huge college textbooks from ~10yrs ago. I hate to throw these into the trash. They're not really worth attempting to resell them. Anyone know where I can take them to get broken down? These are laboratory medicine-type books, so not worth donating either. Thanks!

  1. You can put them in the paper recycling as long as you take the cover off.

  2. There are lots of online venues that make it easy to sell used textbooks, like Textbookbuyer.com. By typing in the ISBNs, you can quickly see the offering prices. If you're not interested in selling them at all, but simply want to get rid of them right away because they're taking up space, then maybe there is a recycling center in your area that might have a use for the books. I'm curious why you say they're not worth donating? Are the books really specialized? If nobody wants them, then maybe recycling is the best answer.

  3. Take them to your local recycling center. The information will be outdated anyways.
