  1. Resize using Windows Image Resizer, a perfect little application that integrates into Windows Explorer. By far the simplest solution, just point to the picture right click and choose resize to 800x600, that should drastically reduce the size on the disk.

Download it for free here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downl... - you'll see this is the Microsoft powertoys site, look for image resizer link.

  2. If you want the format to be either jpg or gif then the only way is to reduce the quality of the image on photoshop.

  3. Open it in Start->accessories->Paint. Select save as and select file format as .gif while saving the file. this will reduce the size greatly though ther will be a colour diff. in the .gif file.

  4. Try Ifranview

  5. Reducing the Imagine dimensions:

You can 'resize' an image in every image editing program out there.  This will typically reduce the filesize dramatically.  There are a bunch of free ones to download.  And now there are web-based image editing available:   Try out PhotoShop Express

    Reducing the Image Filesize:

If you want to keep the file dimensions in tact, you can always change the image-mode to INDEXED COLOR (.gif, or 256 colors).  By removing most of the 256,000 shades (converting JPG to GIF) will reduce the filesize.

(If you use Infraview - be sure to UNCHECK all the file associates or your computer will open up the program at strange times)
