Hello every body,

I worked in USA for couple of years and had been paying the taxes etc. As now I've left US permanently, I want to get my money back. Anyone can kindly, help how and what can I claim back? Should I contact the IRS directly,if so which particular section/depttment? or an gent might be better?Any help would highly be appreciated.

  1. What visa were you on?

Unless you were an NRA on a F-1, J-1, M-1 or Q visa, the Fica/MC taxes were mandatory and non-refundable.

If you were on one of those visas, what kind of work were you doing?

As for taxes, if you made more than the personal exemption, you had a filing requirement.  You were to file a 1040NR (or 1040NR-EZ), calculate the tax owed and get a refund from any excess tax withheld on your paycheck.

  2. You can get social security and Medicare taxes back only if you were exempt from residency while in the U.S. Also if you filed resident tax return, you will not get it back.
