How to remember new vocabulary words?

i study alot of words from books i read..the process is a bit boring i read the book and highlight the words i don't know(many ones)and i look them up ..and then study them by making sentences........any other method that helps me remember words easily??

  1. Link the word to something that you do know the meaning of.  but I know what you mean.  sometimes I have to look up a word 5 times before I remember it


  2. u can use flash cards(putting the word on one side then the definition on the other). write the vocabulary words a bunch of times. or u could read a sentence twice with a voc. word u dont understand and use context clues to try to find out what the word means. that's how i do it, hope it helps

  3. Here are some tips from when I taught 7th & 8th grade Reading:

    1. Make index cards with the word, definition, and sample sentence

    2. Create a visual master list of words on a large sheet of paper-in the classroom I used large bulletin board paper

    3. Target a few words to incorporate into daily language

    4. Use the words frequently to put those words into your permanent memory

    5. Write using the new vocabulary words

    6. Add prefixes & suffixes when you can to give more meaning to the new vocabulary word
