Question:

How to remove 30 day late credit reporting due to not receiving the bill?

I have a card from the furniture store. My credit is above 720 and I always pay bills on time. Usually I use my online banking to pay bills, however this retailed doesn't support eBill, therefore I have to wait for the paper statement.

I failed to receive the bill from them for 2 months, and just realized it yesterday because we bought a new couch there. They posted a 30day late to my credit report.

What is the best way to argue to get this off, since I have not heard from them for 60 days? They said that returned mail was not received.

Is it in their power to make a change to my credit report?

Thank you!

  1. Yes, they could change your report.  The best way is to very politely beg them to remove it.

Basically, not receiving a statement is not an excuse to for not paying.  It is your responsibility to make sure you get statements and pay.

Perhaps you should make a check list of your bills to keep track of whether you've paid them or not.  A simple spreadsheet with bills listed down the page and monthly columns across works very well.

  2. legitamately you owe them the money, and means that they don't run the mailing service and employ the individual in charge of getting the mail to your box they are not at fault for this instance. When you didn't receive the bill the first time you should have called and requested a meeting/manager to be able to pay the bill...hence the reason most companies don't ding your credit until two months no payment because they too understand mailing sometimes doesn't make it.

as for getting it of your credit even though you are responsible....I would wait a month or two for a little time to pass, but you can actually contact the credit reporting agencies yourself (with a letter) explaining the situation...they will "investigate" the matter in that they will issue a question letter to the company whether through visa or the furniture store that actually put the ding on your credit for a response to your statement....if no response is given, it is removed off your credit. (assuming you don't still currently have a collections debt on your head). I had a friend overseas who did this.....when he came back though he'd informed the credit company of his departure and new mailing and no internet/phone service....they still charged it to his credit and he did what I just explained and his score is now in the high 700s...cause like you he always pays things on time. good luck!

  3. Well you could have just called and asked for your balance when you noticed the bill didn't show up. Not getting your mail isn't reason not to keep on top of things.

What you can do is call them and ask nicely. Don't get on the phone and ream them out that's all the more reason not to help you. Just say that you would really like to have the 30-day late removed as it's not really indicative of your ability to pay , you just didn't get the bill in time.

They can report this to the bureau and have the late deleted.

  4. Request your credit report and then dispute the 30-day late reporting.  Chances are, if the company has been paid and everything is up to date they won't even bother to reply.  If this is the case, it will be removed automatically.

  5. The first thing you should find out is what address they sent the bills to, and correct that.  Until that is resolved, you might never get a statement.
