I have some type of panel/wall board in the bathroom and I would like to remove it and just paint the walls. But there is thick adhesive on the walls that was applies with a trowel. Is there any way to remove this stuff so I have a smoothe surface to paint?

Also there is wallpaper that I need to remove and i'm sure there is some gunk behind that.

  1. The wallpaper gunk might come off with olive oil.

  2. On the adheisive you will have to run a metal taping knife(6 inch is best it is stiffer) over the surface just to knock off the "****".."stalagmites) then this will prepare the surface enough to just totally skim over the walls with joint compound to level it out..let it dry, sand it, dust it,,then prime then p[aint..You will not be able to get this adheisive off without tearing the heck out of the drywall and would more than likely end up replacing the drywall or having to patch it up..then end up skimming the whole surface anyway..the wallpaper use a product called "dif" available at wal mart or any diy store..
