  1. It really depends on how the block was laid, if they used caulk then take a razor knife and cut the bond. If they used mortar,, you will have to chip the joint carefully until you can remove it (the mortar). When you have removed the joint material, try to work the block out. If you can get it loose, it should come out, sometimes there are center spacers. Try running some sort of thin metal between the joints you removed and if there is an obstruction, you have to get it out. It is possible that the joint is either mortared or caulked all the way through. In that case you will have to be patient and dig it all out or as much as you can get. Last resort is to carefully break the block and remove it, clean the debris and place a new block.

    Do not use a grinder, you can damage surrounding block.


  2. use a grinder with the proper wheel used for burnishing glass, do this on all joints and on both sides, some blocks are grouted and some are epoxy cemented, you will need to know what they were installed with. once you have done this, you should be able to get it out. don't force it out or you may damage the others around it
