  1. Remove the furniture.

Start pulling up the carpet in one corner. Roll and cut with a utility knife onto manageable sizes.

  2. First remove all furniture from room.  Then grap carpet in the corner off of the tackstrips, once you pull hard the carpet will start to come loose.

To reduce the bulk of carpet, I would suggest then taking a straight edge(razor) and cut carpet in 3ft wide strips down the lenght of room - this way you can then roll this smaller piece which is easier to handle and remove.  Next you will be left with padding, which should be done the same way.  Remember smaller is easier on your back.  Good Luck!  Oh by the way - if carpet is glued to the slab you will need to scrap it off.

  3. well I am not an expert but I did manage to tear my carpet up with no

    problems.

It can depend on if its glued or padding is glued. Mine was not. I started in a corner pulled up from there and cut medium size squares out small enough to handle on my own. Rolled up tied with string. On the edge of where molding meets the wall the are capet strips where it is tacked down ... Careful they are sharp. I ripped them up with a crow bar looking tool I cant think of the name but you put flat end on floor and tap with hammer. Home depo can tell you what it is. If you were as lucky as me there were beautiful hardwood floors under mine. Just don't rush through it  is alot of work, but you feel acaccomplished after!

  4. cut it, pull it up, roll it up and toss it out.

Do the same with the padding and then sweep clean.

If your just trashing it- you can't do it wrong!!  Just start cutting and ripping!

  5. cut the carpet in 2ft widths roll it up and throw it away

  6.   All good suggestion but 1 tip.. Roll back the carpet and cut from the back much easier.
