  1. i have a 2001 heritage softail and had the baffles taken out when i got mine. the mechanic drilled the rivets out that were holding them in. it messed up my gas mileage after i did that.

  4. It depends on the bike and mufflers in it. Many bikes you can use a hole saw through the rear and drill through the baffles. It's a common low buck/no buck mod for many bikes. The Concours Owners Group (COG- for Kawasaki Concours aka- ZG1000) calls it a bafflectomy. Controlled testing with these bikes show a HP and torque increase. Often make the bikes smoother, does occasionally requires some minor carburetor tunning, mostly on the low speed circuit. On the Concours it does not significantly increase the noise from the bike. I did this to my bike a year ago and did not need to re tune the carbs, of course your results may vary depending on the bike.

  6. Exhaust baffels are designed to keep  back pressure on the engine.Removing them will affect your gas mileage on the lower end.It will also effect engine performance and the noise depending on the state could you a traffic ticket.

  8. dirtytricks is correct.  However, I guess I'll bite a little . . . . what are they on?

    If you MUST, it's a better idea to buy an aftermarket exhaust.  If you buy one that actually DOES anything and you have carbs, you'll have to rejet as well.  Are you ready to do that?  If you don't have to rejet, you're just making noise and breaking something that the manufacturer put a lot of thought in.

  9. "Exhaust baffles" are there for a reason.  Leave them there.
