How to remove glue on hardwood floor underneath carpet?

Question

I have this glue stuff all over my closet hardwood floors.

*First Closet* it's hard and dry and hard to even scrape off with a scraper or some type of a blade.

*Second Closet* very gooey, sticky substance.

How would I remove these two substances?

Also on the steps underneath the carpet I have black stuff right in the middle of the stairs. Would that be some kind of glue to?

scrape what u can,try mineral spirits then if still no go use a palm sander
