hey i want to give this a try: i have a dent in my rear passenger side door, i can open it from the inside but i can also open it from the outside but its a lot harder since the dent is somehow blocking the linkage inside the door and making it very hard to open, so how would i go about removing the inside door panel and iam almost sure i can take a small piece of wood with a towel on the end of it and use a rubber mallet to pound out the dent some to at least free up the linkage. oh i have a 1991 oldsmobile 88 royale, the power window still works great on the damaged door. any tips you have will be appreciated

  1.   remove interior door panel

Discovering that perfect interior door sometimes doesn't begin with its design or raw material, but with a decision as simple as whether the door needs to be painted or stained. If the theme of your home and decor call for something a bit more traditional, then consider a wood panel door or French door; both of which come in an endless assortment of wood species to compliment any environment.

  2. The handles and pulls need to be unscrewed, also the window lock pop-up, you will need to prise out the window switches to disconnect the wiring.

The trim itself will probably be held onto the door by blind plastic poppers around the edge, see if you can ease a putty knife blade under the trim and GENTLY lever it off.

It's quite possible with the age of the car that the poppers will break, so easy does it.

Rather than hammer that dent put the towel behind it and use a piece of 2x4 or a small log and PUSH it out, if that fails THEN get hammering!

  3. There should not be any special tools... You will most likely just need a screwdriver and maybe a couple wrenches. If it looks like you have all the screws out and its still not coming out then try lifting up and then out because sometimes they put little hooks on the panel itself. Also, if there is a light on the door panel they like to hide a s***w next to the bulb.

  4. There will be screws under the pull handle and probably under the window switch. There are plastic push clips around the edges of the trim panel. Use a stiff putty knife to pop them loose.  Chances are that there isn't an opening in the inner door shell big enough to fit a 2x4 through.

  5. look for s***w under the door handle and around the speaker. Or just try to pull it off. If you cant refer the a mechanic book. And the take the dent out just get a towel and put it where the dent is and slightly tap it with a mallet on the inside.
