Question:

How to remove/repair my car's power windows?

I drive a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The windows are extra big, only two of them. The driver side window was broken and an after-market replacement was installed.

Now that window's pane of glass is misaligned. When I hit the switch to open the window, it doesn't go down automatically; I have to force it down by hand to make it drop into the door. Closing the window is not a problem.

I'd like to open up the door to fix this myself but I don't know how ... help?

  1. 2007? Shouldn`t that be under warranty???

  2. I don't know how long ago it's been that you had the glass put in ,but if it has'nt been very long ago you should be able to take it back to them and they should repair it free.(( If you want to give it a try yourself)) Then let me see if i can help you threw this project.First thing pull your door panel off ,then if you have plastric on the door take it off.You should now see some hole's cut out of the door so you can reach inside to the glass. You may need a flash light to see with .If you look inside where the glass is you should see that on each side of the glass there is a bracket with two bolts on each of them .If the glass seem's to be tight when you first start up with it ,then you will need to loosen the    bottom bolt on each side of the window, but if it seem;s that it get;s tight when it's torch the top of the door then you will need to loosen the top bolt on each side of the window. You should have done it ,so put the door panel back on & give yourself a pat on the back for a well done job.

  3. there is a track on both sides of the window with felt inside to keep the window solidly in place and not rattle, they have two bolts on each track, one at the top and one towards the bottom, the tracks have a slotted hole so when the bolts are loosened they move back and forth, loosen not remove the 4 bolts raise the window 1/2 way and tighen bolts, try it out and make any small adjustment you need.

  4. don't you have a warranty? that is what that is for.

  5. Its off its track. Open the door panel (that sounds easier than it is, the manufacture hides all the attachment points). Then you can look to see where the problem is. It could be that the metal crossbar assembly is tweaked as well meaning you would have to replace it. But you wont know till you open it up.
