How to remove stains on plastic caused by vinegar?

I dropped some vinegar on a plastic item and now it has become very scratched up since vinegar always stains and messes up plastic (from what i read). HOW do i remove these stains?? 10 pnts for best answer plzz hurry

  1. Without knowing at all the specifics of the plastic, I find it logical, given that food products such as Vinegar and Tomato, are highly acidic, and when stored in plastic, will almost always stain, yet tomato ketchup and vinegar are sold in bottles formulated to withstand that.

       Without knowing how the item became very scratched up, I have to assume Vinegar didn't cause the scratching, though it certainly has the ability to dissolve and/or etch. I use it to save old paint brushes.

       Finally I doubt there is a positive resolution to the problem, and Vinegar, as acidic as it is,,, is not instant, such as Sulphuric Acid could be.
