  1. bleepingcomputer.com

    download malwarebytes' anti-malware

  2. I would try AVG, if that doesnt help check out http://www.nicklockard.com

  3. I would suggest that you get Avast. It is free for personal use.

Yesterday, my free anti-virus caught a trojan virus.

To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive, I upload it to virus total web site to check.

To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect the trojan. The one that detect the trojan are mainly the free version.

Avast boot scan in Windows safe mode is the most effective way to get rid of

stubborn trojans and viruses that keep coming back to haunt you.

These trojan and viruses hide themselves in system restore folder and many anti-virus programs cannot get rid of them. So whenever, you restart your PC,

the viruses are restore back by WIndows.

Avast boot scan help to get rid of them in the system restore folders and ensure your system are clean.

  4. Malwarebytes is one of the best programs for removing fake software download, update and run a scan - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

The other two programs to try are:

    SuperAntispyware: http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

    SmitFraudfix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p...

Once you have removed it install Avast Anti-Virus and Comodo Pro firewall, then switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE this will stop it returning. (links on my profile)

  7. AntiSpyware XP 2008 is a rogue anti-spyware program that displays false and exaggerated scan results. Thankfully, though, there is a totally free way to remove this program.

  8. This is one of the worst forms of spyware.  There's a rather involved process to try and rid yourself of it.  First, turn OFF your system restore if it is on.  You can do this through the Control Panel.  If you can still access the Internet, try to download and install the free version of superantispyware from superantispyware.com  This type of malware is often bundled with a Trojan called vundo.  There's a a program called vundofix (or perhaps fixvundo) that works well.  Download that, too, if you can.  Once you've installed and updated superantispyware, reboot your computer using Safe Mode, and run superantispyware, and if necessary, vundofix.  Remove (don't quarantine) any infections found.  Run your antivirus again.  Hopefully you'll have taken care of it after all that.  If not, it might be time to seek a competent repair service OR, if you feel confident enough to do it, reformat your drive and reinstall Windows.   Since it's a new Dell, you may want to contact their service department in case they've installed any proprietary software that might interfere.
